Stanford-Taiwan Social Science Fellowship Program

The Stanford-Taiwan Social Science Fellowship Program (STSS) sponsored by the National Science and Technology Council has been in collaboration with the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences (CASBS), Stanford University since May 2016 for supporting research on social and behavioral sciences and for promoting interdisciplinary cooperation between Taiwan and Stanford. The objective of this program is to cultivate talented academic researchers in the fields of humanities and social sciences; to encourage domestic academic researchers to observe, think and interact with the world from multiple perspectives, and thus build connections with international outstanding academics. 

CASBS was founded in 1954. The mission is to promote interdisciplinary interaction through forming networks of research, thereby bring pioneering achievement and solution aimed at contemporary societal problems, and further design a better future society together. To attain the goal, CASBS has a number of international visiting scholars’ programs. Numerous outstanding scholars from various fields including economics, politics, and sociology have been invited as visiting scholars, and some of whom are winners of the Nobel Prize, Pulitzer Prize, and MacArthur Fellows Program. Scholar Selection

Under the STSS fellowship program, one scholar in the fields of humanities or social sciences will be selected as the Stanford-Taiwan Social Science Fellow (STSS fellow, please visit casbs.stanford.edu/fellowship-application-guidelines-and-selection-process#partner for more information) to join the CASBS fellowship for nine months. CASBS provides opportunities for scholars to elevate research capability for a long period of time while being free from the responsibilities and duties from the affiliation. CASBS also holds various activities and forums for the scholars. The symposiums and seminars in Stanford campus create a community where outstanding scholars from different fields can inspire each other. The scholars in the program will obtain important opportunities for exchanging thoughts with excellent scholars in Stanford University. Accordingly, these scholars can focus on research breakthrough and innovation while developing into outstanding academics with profound knowledge in humanities and social sciences.

Scholar Selection
Under the STSS fellowship program, one scholar in the fields of humanities or social sciences will be selected as the Stanford-Taiwan Social Science Fellow to join the CASBS fellowship for nine months between 2023 and 2024. CASBS provides a high-quality environment and excellent opportunities for outstanding international scholars to interact with each other, creating a community where they can exchange their thoughts and inspire each other. Accordingly, these scholars can attain research breakthroughs and innovation while develop into outstanding academics with profound knowledge in humanities and social sciences.
